I would guess that if your mother was exposed to the modern day morals, TV,music and general violence while she was growing up-the threat of a wooden spoon etc. would not be useful. I was a war time baby when there were lots of guyren who were placed for adoption. We were told these guyren had "bad blood" and must be avoided. All completely ignored by us guyren, of course.
