What are your views about gay marriage, seniors? I've heard more than enough on Y!A from my own age group on the subject (I'm 18), but I've always been curious as to what the older and wiser generation thinks. Do you feel that society's (extremely) gradual acceptance of homosexuality is a negative thing, or a positive? Do you think gay marriage should be legalized?
Thanks for your time, seniors. =) |
I still think that people should keep their personal life private & personal from the public eye. Before everyone goes ga-ga on me for my views, you should know why I have them.........
I have many gay friends who are long gone from this earth from the awful disease of AIDS. The suffering of their lives as gay individuals was compounded after they were diagnosed & shunned. Many died alone. Their entire lives were spent in a state of confusion & even the gay community has their fair share of "haters" within it for their own kind, that heap abuse on the weak or the misunderstood.
Why would our society wish to compound the issues by allowing the homosexual population to enter into the arena of marriage, divorce, & guy support settlements? It would cripple the court system & cause more problems for the tax payers & society as a whole. The insurance companies & employers would be involved in knowing a persons private lifestyle choices & I fear it would cause MORE animosity & abuse of people in the gay COMMUNITY & ALTERNATIVE lifestyle choices.
It is all so complex & I would not want to watch the guyren of gay couples suffer some of the same problems that the straight community now has. America just isn't ready to accept this lifestyle as a "normal" part of reality & lifestyles.
Perhaps in the next 20 years, but not now. There are far too many "unknowns" associated with the gay lifestyle that need to be taken into consideration to avoid a bigger set of problems for the gay community that has no idea what they might be entering into. Nothing is stopping anyone from having a relationship with the same sex partner & nothing says you can't draw up a will & a pre-nup type of agreement that will allow the person of your choice, or partner to inherit your estate & take over as caregiver for the guyren you share custody of. It's better than having to pay for a lot of attorney fees & spend years in court like us straight people have to when our marriages don't work out! |
Is it true that seniors are more open to gay couples living next door? My parents have suggested that I move into an area with a lot of seniors because they think they are more likely to be nice and accepting of me being a lesbian. My mom says areas with younger people won't be so accepting.
She says when people get older they have a greater sense of humanity and that they've "seen it all" and are accepting of people more. Do you think this is true? I'm in my 30s. |
| Not true at all. They haven't changed their (our) beliefs. They just don't do anything about it. |

Seniors: How do you feel about gay people? Times have changed, and not many people were openly gay back then. Now that gay people are out in the open, how do you feel about them? |
I went to college with a gay, didn't know it for three years, what differences did it make, none.
I worked with a gay for over 13 years, I didn't know it, until he made a pass at my, after we straightened it out, we got along fine.
I was in the service with two gays, they kept their place, we kept ours, they did their duty and you know what, they have red blood too. |
Seniors: Do you think that gay marriage should be legal in your state, what about your country? 1. should gays have the right to get married in your state?
2. what about your country?
3. should gay couples be able to adopt guyren?
4. should homosexuality still be illegal?
5. do homosexuals deserve to be murdered? |
1. Yes. No one has yet come up with a valid reason why gays should not be treated as any other tax paying citizen.
2. Yes. For exactly the same reason.
3. Yes. There are cases of guy abuse by straight people in the news all the time. Having two loving parents of either sex is better than having abusive, molesting, heterosexual parents.
4. No. Of course not.
5. No. Of course not. You asking such a thing is sick in and of itself. See a therapist, man! |

Openminded seniors, what was it like being gay, back in the day? Were there any openly gay guys in your high school or college? How were gays treated if you knew any? If you would have hypothetically been gay, what do you think would have happened? Do you think your parents would have kicked you out?
Homophobes and haters will be reported. I said OPENMINDED seniors for a reason. |
| Prior to the 1960's, a majority of society viewed homosexuality as a form of sexual deviancy or perversion, and in many jurisdictions, engaging even in consensual same sex activity was a criminal offense. Not too many people "came out" under such circumstances. |
I'm into daddies, anyone in the community know of the best area or bar in Chicago to cruise for gay seniors? I am really interested in much more mature men, they have had a lot of experience and have tall tales to tell maybe a tall tail too!A gay senior bar, maybe not,but maybe one where there is a preponderance of gray or silver hair to be seen. They are survivors!
